Community Mural Projects

I have had the opportunity to assist in large scale painted and tile mosaic murals in several different neighborhoods, with Precita Eyes in San Francisco and with SPARC in Los Angeles. Both organizations have exemplary community arts programs, facilitating communication and understanding, fostering and preserving cultural heritage, and promoting arts learning and appreciation in their communities. I participated in projects from the initial visioning stage, to wall preparation, and through completion.

Studio Assistance

During my time in graduate school, I assistant in the print studio of Robert Canaga, a well-known print and paint artist in Eugene, Oregon. We completed a series of over 3,000 solar etching prints of 17 different wineries in Lane County Oregon, and installed the exhibition for the opening at the Jordan Schnitzer Mueum of Art opening on August 2, 2011. I learned the entire process of developing solar etchings from photograph onto metal plates, and did all of the printing on an old vintage press myself.

Arts Exhibitions and Art Auctions

During the summer of 2010, I worked with an Artist Residency program in San Francisco, called Root Division. Aside from setting up all of the administrative documents necessary for an exhibition like price lists, CVRs, artist statements, and labels, I learned to properly hang professional works of art. Most exciting, though, was being able to participate in the curatorial process, interviewing potential artists for upcoming shows, and sitting in on the quarterly curatorial committee meeting with arts professionals from all over the Bay area, ranging from the Dean of Academic affairs at San Francisco Arts Institute to Curator at the SFMOMA. It was extremely valuable to hear what kinds of questions we asked about bodies of work and the conceptual relevance to other works when putting together a themed show. I also wrote press releases and contacted hundreds of constituents about upcoming exhibitions.
Through my leadership role with the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders in the Arts University of Oregon Chapter [ELAN], I was able to plan and execute a fundraiser art auction called Beats & Brushstrokes. This event featured a curated exhibition of vinyl record art and silent auction held at a local business in Eugene, OR.  I developed the initial call to artist and press releases, and form relationships with event sponsors. I coordinated an art making event prior to the exhibition and art auction, and coordinated a group of volunteers to assist with event set up and exhibition installation. The event was a hue success, raising over $3,000 in just under three hours.

I have over ten years of experience coordinating, overseeing, installing, and promoting monthly and annual student work exhibitions, both small and large in scale, hanging in a range of environments from temporary outside exhibitions on portable walls, to year-long rotating exhibits in professional business settings.

I have also overseen the delivery of quarterly and annual public showcases of children’s visual art and performances. I am experiences in coordinating with venue personnel, ordering the mounting and hanging supplies, planning installations, pricing art and developing tracking tools for art sales, training staff and volunteers to work the event, and designing all promotional materials.

During the spring of 2010, I developed the annual Donor Thank You and Resident Artist Recognition Event for Lane Arts Council, which included an art exhibition of selected student works from artist residency programs throughout the year. I developed the entire event project plan and time line. I coordinated with roughly 20 resident artists from varying visual art disciplines, local restaurants, and scheduled volunteers for the installation of the works and food reception at a popular gallery in downtown Eugene, Oregon.

Board Member at Material Exchange Center for Community Arts [MECCA]

As a board member for MECCA, I was responsible for guiding the mission, purpose, and priorities of the organization, while representing and promoting MECCA in the community and encouraging community engagement. I supported staff in monitoring the progress of strategic planning, program implementation, and outcomes. Serving on both the fundraising and program committees, I identified granting sources and developed grant proposals to sustain and enhance program services. I also had the opportunity to serve as a volunteer youth arts instructor, developing age appropriate arts lesson plans and quality instruction for youth, ages 8-12, and provided professional development training to adult youth educators on how to incorporate recycled art into curriculum.

Visual Arts Experience

My undergraduate degree is in Fine Art and Graphic Design. Although I received my BFA in 2001, and have since focused my efforts on Arts Education, Arts Access and Resource Development and Community Arts, I have continued to create and occasionally show my own work. Painting and printmaking are my art forms of choice, however, I have experience in other mediums as well.

Musical Experience

From the age of 5, I was immersed reading and playing music, through lessons in piano, and later was introduced to clarinet and keyboard for the school band. In college I picked up guitar, and a minor in music theory. And last year, I decided to begin learning the fiddle and ukelele through listening and playing with others.
