ARTS EDUCATOR, ADVOCATE, AND LEADER
I believe that participation in the arts empower, give voice, and enhance quality of life. The arts break down barriers, build communities, and provide valuable learning opportunities. I have eighteen years of experience working with various community-based non-profit arts organizations and have assumed many leadership roles. My professional life has been dedicated to promoting the healthy development of youth through standards based, sequential arts education in schools, and through culturally relevant and engaging after school community-based partnerships. I am committed to providing programs and resources to ensure equitable access to arts participation, and I am dedicated to empowering others through creative expression to reach their full potential.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Arts Education Director, Arts Council Santa Cruz County, Santa Cruz, CA
October 2011 – Present
  • Increased number of students served annually from 8,000 to over 20,000 students county‐wide, in over 40 schools in 10 districts, ensuring strategic priorities are being addressed and establishing standards for program quality and success.
  • Developed and implemented several new programs, including an arts integration program in schools, and a professional development series for teaching artists and educators.
  • Through coalition building and advocacy, got largest Title 1 district in the county to add arts into their three-year Local Control Accountability Plan with a designated budget of over $2 million to hire 20 FTE VAPA teachers and updated their arts plan, transforming the districts arts programming.
  • Established new partnerships and contracts, increasing the annual Arts Education Program budget from $300,000 to over $600,000.
  • Developed new strategies to increase equity, inclusivity and justice in all programs, recognizing that historical and ongoing inequities, biases, and barriers exist and are perpetuated within communities and institutions unless they are directly and intentionally addressed and systematically changed.
Local Advocacy Network Manager, California Alliance for Arts Education, CA

  • Developed models for innovative practices in areas of advocacy, communication, leadership, and coalition building to expand opportunities for success of the Local Advocacy Network.
  • Promoted successful practices by leading workshops at the annual leadership retreats, making virtual presentations on Alliance and partner webinars, and speaking at statewide and local events.
  • Led planning for annual leadership retreats by identifying key topics, leading workshops, and developing handouts, presentations, and activities.
  • Mentored and supported local organizers for Northern California Local Advocacy Network sites, monitoring
progress and provide ongoing strategic assistance to ensure success in execution of action plans.

  • Developed programming and promoted participation and parent involvement, increasing the number of weekly classes and workshops by 75% and implementing an evening parent computer training course.

  • Designed and developed the volunteer and arts mentoring program, and all associated procedures, and materials, increasing the number of volunteer mentors from 4 to over 50 annually!
  • Developed a new outreach program and served as community liaison, negotiating collaborations and contracts for special projects, cultivating 5 artist outreach partnerships quarterly.
  • Planned and executed annual fundraising events, monthly event programs, and quarterly youth art shows and performances, securing sponsorships, and designing all promotional materials.
